1. Introduction

This Product Warranty Policy explains how MKTECHSUPPORT handles warranty enquiries and claims relating to technology products purchased from our business.

Products may include computers, laptops, components, peripherals, networking equipment, accessories and other technology goods.

This policy must be read together with our general Terms & Conditions and Returns & RMA Policy.

Nothing in this policy limits statutory consumer rights under applicable South African law.

2. Types of Warranty Protection

A product purchased from MKTECHSUPPORT may benefit from different forms of warranty protection.

  • Statutory consumer rights under applicable South African law.
  • A manufacturer's warranty, where provided.
  • A supplier or distributor warranty, where applicable.
  • Any additional written warranty expressly offered by MKTECHSUPPORT.

These protections may have different coverage periods and procedures. Additional commercial warranties do not replace mandatory statutory consumer rights.

3. Six-Month Statutory Protection for Goods

Section 56 of the South African Consumer Protection Act provides an implied warranty of quality for qualifying goods supplied to consumers.

Where the statutory requirements are met, a consumer may return goods that fail to satisfy the applicable quality standards within six months after delivery.

Subject to the provisions of the Act, the consumer may choose an appropriate statutory remedy of repair, replacement or refund.

MKTECHSUPPORT will not require a customer to rely solely on a manufacturer's warranty where a statutory remedy against the retailer applies.

Additional rights may apply following a statutory repair under the Consumer Protection Act.

4. Manufacturer Warranties

Certain products are supplied with warranties offered by their original manufacturers.

The warranty period, coverage, conditions and service procedures may vary according to the manufacturer and product model.

Manufacturer warranties may provide additional protection beyond statutory consumer rights.

Customers should retain any warranty documentation supplied with the product where available.

Manufacturer terms will not override statutory rights that cannot lawfully be restricted.

5. Supplier and Distributor Warranties

MKTECHSUPPORT sources products from third-party suppliers and distributors.

Some warranty claims may require inspection, testing or assessment by the relevant supplier or manufacturer.

Where appropriate, MKTECHSUPPORT will assist with coordinating the warranty process for products purchased from us.

Supplier procedures may affect how a claim is assessed, but do not remove MKTECHSUPPORT's obligations as a retailer under applicable law.

6. Warranty Periods

Commercial warranty periods differ between products, manufacturers and suppliers.

The applicable warranty period may be identified in the product listing, quotation, invoice or accompanying manufacturer documentation.

Customers should not assume that every product has the same commercial warranty period.

A commercial warranty's expiry does not automatically eliminate a statutory remedy that may still be available.

7. Defects That May Be Covered

Depending on the applicable warranty or statutory right, coverage may include:

  • Manufacturing defects.
  • Faulty components arising under normal intended use.
  • Goods that do not meet applicable quality standards.
  • Products that fail to match an applicable description or representation.
  • Other failures covered by a relevant written warranty or law.

Whether a claim qualifies depends on the circumstances, evidence and applicable legal or warranty conditions.

8. Commercial Warranty Exclusions

Manufacturer and supplier warranties may exclude certain types of damage or use-related faults.

Examples may include:

  • Accidental physical damage.
  • Liquid damage occurring after delivery.
  • Misuse or operation outside intended conditions.
  • Damage directly caused by incompatible equipment.
  • Unauthorised modifications that caused the fault.
  • Ordinary wear and tear not attributable to a covered defect.

An exclusion applies only where supported by the relevant warranty terms and applicable law.

The presence of physical damage or a modification does not automatically invalidate every unrelated statutory claim.

9. How to Submit a Warranty Claim

Customers who believe a product purchased from MKTECHSUPPORT is defective should contact our support team.

Please provide the following information where available:

  • Your name and contact details.
  • The invoice or order reference.
  • The product name and model.
  • The serial number, where applicable.
  • A description of the problem.
  • Relevant photographs or supporting information.

Contact us at info@mktechsupport.co.za or through our Contact page.

10. Proof of Purchase

Proof of purchase helps us verify the product, purchase date and applicable warranty.

Customers are encouraged to retain invoices and order confirmations.

Where MKTECHSUPPORT can reasonably verify the purchase through its own records or other acceptable evidence, the absence of a printed invoice will not automatically invalidate a statutory claim.

11. Returns and RMA Process

Certain warranty claims may require a Return Merchandise Authorisation (RMA) reference or another return procedure.

MKTECHSUPPORT will explain the applicable process when the customer contacts us.

Customers should follow reasonable return and packaging instructions to help protect equipment during transportation.

An administrative RMA process will not be used to deny a valid statutory remedy.

Read our Returns & RMA Policy for more information.

12. Product Assessment and Testing

A product may require inspection or testing to establish the nature and cause of a reported fault.

Assessments may be performed by MKTECHSUPPORT, an authorised supplier or the manufacturer, depending on the circumstances.

Customers will be informed of relevant findings where reasonably possible.

Where a customer is entitled to a remedy without charge under applicable law, MKTECHSUPPORT will not impose an unauthorised assessment or handling fee as a condition of that remedy.

13. Repair, Replacement and Refund

The available remedy depends on the applicable statutory right or commercial warranty.

Under the Consumer Protection Act's applicable six-month implied warranty, qualifying consumers may elect repair, replacement or refund, subject to the Act.

A manufacturer warranty may provide different additional remedies after the statutory period has expired.

MKTECHSUPPORT will communicate the outcome of a claim and the applicable remedy options.

Customers will not be required to accept a more restrictive supplier remedy where the law provides a different enforceable entitlement.

14. Failure After a Statutory Repair

Section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act provides additional protection in certain circumstances where goods are repaired under the statutory implied warranty.

If the applicable defect is not remedied or a further qualifying defect is discovered within the period specified by the Act, the consumer may be entitled to a replacement or refund.

MKTECHSUPPORT will assess these circumstances according to the applicable statutory requirements.

15. Warranty Processing Times

Warranty processing times may depend on the type of product, reported defect, availability of testing facilities and supplier involvement.

We will make reasonable efforts to keep customers informed of material progress and delays.

Supplier processing periods do not remove obligations to provide remedies within a reasonable time where required by law.

16. Data and Accessories

Customers should back up important information before returning computers, storage devices or other equipment containing personal data, whenever reasonably possible.

MKTECHSUPPORT will exercise reasonable care when handling equipment and information.

Customers should confirm which accessories must accompany a product submitted for assessment.

Please do not include unrelated accessories or personal items unless requested.

Personal information will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

17. Out-of-Warranty Products

Where no applicable statutory or commercial warranty covers a fault, MKTECHSUPPORT may offer a separately quoted diagnostic or repair service.

Any chargeable work will be subject to disclosure and customer authorisation.

Customers may also request a repair through our Repair Booking page.

18. Workmanship Warranty

Repairs performed directly by MKTECHSUPPORT may qualify for our additional three-month complimentary workmanship warranty.

This additional warranty concerns qualifying repair workmanship and is separate from the original product warranty.

Read our Workmanship Warranty Policy for details.

19. Complaints and Disputes

Customers who disagree with a warranty assessment may contact MKTECHSUPPORT to request clarification or a review.

We will make reasonable efforts to investigate complaints and communicate the findings.

Customers retain their rights to approach applicable consumer protection bodies, ombuds or courts.

20. Policy Updates

MKTECHSUPPORT may update this Product Warranty Policy to reflect changes in products, supplier arrangements or applicable law.

Changes will not retrospectively remove existing statutory rights or binding warranty commitments.

The effective date and version shown on this page identify the published policy.
